Johnson elevated to committee leadership position

Committee assignments have been released for the 2011-12 legislative sessions. Rep. Norm Johnson, R-Yakima, has been chosen as the Republican leader on the House Health and Human Services Appropriations Committee.
The committee considers issues relating to funding of health and human services programs and agencies, and makes funding recommendations to the House Ways and Means Committee. In addition, the committee considers bills relating to health and human services with limited fiscal impact.
As ranking member, Johnson will lead House Republican policy issues on the committee.
“This will be a very important committee as we face serious budget constraints in the coming session. One of our top priorities in the budget is protection of our state’s most vulnerable population. I will be fighting to give a voice to these people, as well as to prevent the closure of the Yakima Valley School in Selah, which has more than one hundred developmentally disabled residents under its care,” said Johnson.
In addition, Johnson will continue his role on the House Transportation Committee.
Johnson is beginning his second term in office, representing the 14th Legislative District. The scheduled 105-day legislative session begins Jan. 10 in Olympia.
