Florida teen helps in Washington State House of Representatives

Romelo M. Johnson, a seventh-grade student at Mowat Middle School in Lynn Haven, Florida, recently served as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives in Olympia, Washington. He was sponsored by his grandfather, Rep. Norm Johnson, R-Yakima, Washington.

Paging presents students with a unique educational opportunity to participate in the legislative process. Page duties are varied. They range from ceremonial tasks, such as presenting the flags, to operational chores like distributing amendments during legislative sessions. Each job is vital to the efficient operation of the Legislature. Selection as a page is considered a great honor.

Romelo spent two hours each day in a classroom setting learning about the legislative process and helped to deliver messages to lawmakers on the House floor.

Romelo is the 13-year-old son of Cameron and Ebonie Johnson of Lynn Haven.
