West Valley High School student helps Johnson in the House

Courtney Berger, a freshman at West Valley High School, Yakima, recently served as a page in the Washington House of Representatives. She was sponsored by Rep. Norm Johnson, R-Yakima.

Page responsibilities are varied and include delivering messages and documents to legislators in their offices, in committee meetings and in the House chambers during floor sessions. In addition to these duties, students take part in page school where they learn how a bill becomes a law. They are also required to continue their studies for two hours a day.

Courtney plays volleyball on Team Yakima. She’s also an oboe player with the Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Courtney is the 14-year-old daughter of Tracy and Renee Berger of Yakima.

Junior high and high school students between the ages of 14 and 16 who are interested in the program can get more information by visiting: http://www.leg.wa.gov/House/Pages/HousePageProgram.aspx.
