About Rep. Norm Johnson

Rep. Norm Johnson is a lifelong resident of Yakima County. He was born and raised in Toppenish and graduated from Toppenish High School.

Norm attended Washington State University and Central Washington University, earning a BA in Education and an MA from Heritage University. He also served in the U.S. Army.

Norm taught and counseled at schools in Mabton and Toppenish, and was principal of Eagle High School in Toppenish. Past mayor of Toppenish, Norm has served on the Mabton Town Council, and the Toppenish and Yakima city councils.

First elected to the Washington State House of Representatives in November 2008, Norm is serving his fifth term representing the 14th Legislative District, which includes portion of the city of Yakima, the western half of Yakima County, Klickitat and Skamania counties, and part of east Clark County.

As a former educator, Norm Johnson is working hard to make sure Washington state provides a quality education for young people, both at the K-12 level and at our institutions of higher learning. As a past trustee at Yakima Regional Hospital and past trustee and former board chairman of Toppenish Providence Hospital, health care issues are important to Norm, especially access and affordability for senior citizens and low- and middle-income residents.

Norm also supports better roads, access to our ports, safer communities and neighborhoods, assisting the state’s most vulnerable citizens, and the creation of jobs in Washington. He believes in working with colleagues from both parties in the House and Senate to secure a better future for Washington’s citizens.

Norm lives in Yakima and has five sons, 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
