West Valley teen serves as Rep. Norm Johnson’s page in state House of Representatives

Ian Vickers, a West Valley High School student from Yakima, recently served as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives during the first week of the 2018 legislation session. He was sponsored by Rep. Norm Johnson, R-Yakima.

As a page, Ian observed the Legislature in action and was responsible for delivering messages and documents to legislators in their offices, committee meetings and the House chamber during floor sessions. Paging presents students with a unique educational opportunity to participate in the legislative process, such as presenting the flags, to operational chores like distributing amendments during legislative sessions.

To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14 and 16. Additionally, pages are required to obtain written permission from their parents and school.

Ian's favorite sports include skiing, swimming, hiking, golf and snow shoeing. He is the 16-year-old son of Robert and Lisa Vickers of Yakima.
